I knew the basics of posting on social media as a means to signal relevance. During school, I thought most budding social media people created posts on the fly and posted them within the same day. I was just a graphic designer. I never dealt with the inner workings of social media outside of creating visuals. My appreciation for how important scheduling posts was non-existent.
In a previous role, I was a graphic designer at a startup-esque environment. That required putting on many hats beyond what I expected. One of those hats was not only creating design assets for social media but scheduling them and luckily I had the advantage of working alongside a veteran copywriter who taught me the ropes.
On a daily basis I created design assets for 8-10 different partners which meant that using a social media scheduler made my life much easier. It saved me time and effort as I could schedule the same visual on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Snapchat, etc at the same time.
Instead of thinking what to post at the moment, I had the opportunity to sit down and think what about what I could post instead. I was afforded the time to collaborate with my copywriter and plan things out days, if not weeks ahead. I was able to invest my time on the more time-consuming projects that needed to get done.
Also I learned to take into consideration when I post. If I’m posting whenever I want, I am missing out on using audience behavior to my benefit? Confused? There are specific times when people are most active on social media and that was when I would schedule the posts for to maximize reach and engagements.
What are those specific times to post?
If life were that simple. Social media feeds tend to operate by algorithm and that algorithm always changes. According to the website Influencer Marketing Hub, the best times to post would be the following:
HubSpot – between 2 PM and 3 PM – Thursday the best day
Sprout Social – Wednesday at 11 AM and Friday at 10–11 AM
Expert Voice – Wednesday: 11 AM and 3 PM (doesn’t specify time zone)
Later – 9 AM-11 AM EST
Influencer Marketing Hub
Other websites recommend scheduling posts for 7am, the time most people are heading or preparing to head to work; 12pm which is when people are eating and checking their phones; 7pm which is when most people are done working and are busy browsing their feeds.
I kept up with this every single day and have adopted it subsequently for my own marketing company.
Hope this helps you.
