Ecuadígena is a small experimental project where I combined visual motifs from the pre-Columbian Indian cultures that inhabit Ecuador with the Japanese tradition of kamon (家紋). What are kamon? Kamon are Japanese emblems used to decorate and identify either individuals, family or in more contemporary times, corporations. They were originally used by the aristocracy but later its use was expanded to commoners. Think of them as early logotypes.
Why do this? It’s to create visuals for a hypothetical clothing brand that is uniquely representative of the native peoples that inhabit Ecuador.
